The Forgotten Depths Redux
White Box Solo RPG
So a while back, I had started doing a solo RPG using the OD&D Red Box and a bunch of supplementals. You can read about my search for which system to use here:
The Forgotten Depths - A Solo RPG
Recently, I’ve been attempting to get into solo RPGs as a way to be a player again. A couple years ago, I moved away from my hometown to be with my girlfriend and in the process lost my TTRPG group. After the move, we attempted to incorporate me into the game via Roll20 and Discord voice chat, but it just didn’t mesh well. I felt like I wasn’t
This method proved to be cumbersome for me as I had to have several PDFs open at a single time, have a journal and a grid journal, dice, etc. etc. It overwhelmed me to the point where I didn’t want to do more than one session. Well, four months later, I was itching to try it again. I came across a YouTube video from Chaoclypse where he was showing portable solo play sheets utilizing OSR’s White Box booklet.
The sheets gave me everything that I needed, coupled with the White Box book that I got off Amazon for like $4.
I rolled up my character that I used previously, a half-orc thief named Tavik, but gave him a hired muscle this time with a human fighter (barbarian) named Prend.
This was seriously the easiest route I could go with solo play and I had so much fun with it. I’ve completed one whole session and I’ll be writing each session narratively and releasing them on here like I planned to before. Periodically, I’ll post some tips or things that I’ve done along the way.
Thanks for reading!
